Future Outlook: Risk Reduction

Regional Risk Transfer Initiative
AIDMI will initiate a project on application of microfinance and microinsurance for disaster risk management, where the possibilities for microinsurance in India, Sri Lanka, Philippines, Bangladesh, Pakistan and Nepal will be explored. The main objective of project is to increase and solidify disaster risk transfer and reduction in a variety of institutions and systems that are emerging to work for the poor in South Asia. This included the following specific objectives:
• Scaling up Afat Vimo
• Develop a multi-partner initiative for knowledge management on risk transfer.
• Regional forums on microfinance (including risk transfer) tools for disaster risk management.
In order to achieve these objectives research and development of risk transfer schemes to integrate incentives for DRR will be a part of the activities along with examining the experience with microinsurance and other forms of risk transfer in India and other Asian countries. Workshops and publications and reviews on various aspects will be held and prepared.
The project will be jointly carried out with a series of partner organisations in the region with AIDMI as the leader and coordinating organisation. The timeline for this project is yet to be finalised.

Child's right to safer school: a national campaign
The campaign has so far proved to be a success for AIDMI. Trainings are undertaken continuously and this will continue in the future. AIDMI will work for an increased number of participants in the campaign. Further improvement and additions to AIDMI's educational material will be developed. Where the campaign is still in its infancy, AIDMI will ensure a well-functioning and established campaign in its new areas as well as continuation of the promotion of the campaign with educational officials. On the long-term agenda, AIDMI want to support wide disaster awareness in the Indian school system prioritising poor schools in disaster-prone areas and make the campaign sustainable, ensuring that participants that undergo training can train others in their local communities. This will also be spread at the regional level like in the following Commonwealth countries; Malaysia, Maldives, Singapore, Pakistan, Sri Lanka and Bangladesh with a special focus on climate change and education. The incorporation of climate change into Child’s Right to Safer School: a National Campaign and all other relevant education-based projects in partnerships with the same previous mentioned Commonwealth countries.

Chamber of Commerce and Industry for Small Businesses
Last year's main goal concerning CCISB was already achieved: from 3000 members it has now 4000. This year, the focus will be less in its enlargement, although this will continue on the agenda, but to increase DRR inclusion in the beneficiaries' livelihood. Its support has already proved to be successful as vulnerable communities now have the ability to assure their economical sustainability. Moreover, further focus will be put on promoting DRR tools, as most of the beneficiaries live in disaster-prone areas. CCISB will also continue to promote interaction between different communities where it is present. To realise this, AIDMI will continue its financial support to CCISB, along with technical assistance.
