AIDMI> Overview of DRR Work and Activities
Disaster risk reduction is a many-sided concept, embracing a wide range of aspects in which AIDMI is carrying out their activities. AIDMI does not only focus on feature of disaster risk reduction, but seeks to have a holistic approach to it.

In ideal disaster risk reduction, hazard and vulnerability analysis would be carried out and then appropriate action would be taken based upon the analysis. The reality is more complex; disasters occur regardless the presence of any vulnerability and hazard analysis or any previous preparation to face them. Following disasters' unpredictable occurrences, two different axis of action can be identified and action be undertaken by different stakeholders:

Including disaster awareness at an early age is one of the most efficient ways of creating capacity building, like these girls who undergo a mock drill on earthquake.

• The disaster response axis, whether it is focused on the relief, reconstruction or both of them,
• The policy advocacy axis, through which disasters' impact is intended to be mitigated.

AIDMI includes both configurations in its action plan, which makes it a unique approach in disaster risk reduction. The chart above seeks to illustrate the structure of our disaster risk reduction work, all variables are interlinking, while the chart highlights the main links. Different contexts are usually analysed by AIDMI not only in form of its numerous risk assessments, but also through specific projects, such as the mumbaiVOICES platform or be presented through publications. Simultaneously, the context serves as an epicentre followed by a disaster and respective response, where AIDMI last year responded in four states; Bihar, Gujarat, Jammu and Kashmir and Tamil Nadu. In turn, these responses have led to the establishment of several risk reduction initiatives; Community Resource Centres, Child's right to safer school: a national campaign, the Chamber of commerce for industry and small businesses (CCISB) and the microinsurance scheme Afat Vimo.

Analysing the context provides us with valuable information that we include in our knowledge management, which is utilised, increased and improved through workshops, Training and Learning Circles, Evaluations, Seminars and Lateral Learning Study Tours. With the knowledge and analysis in hand one is aware of possible threats; this way AIDMI is able to spread awareness about disaster risk reduction and the various mitigation and prevention measures we can take, from the grassroots to the international level.

Through this broad approach AIDMI's work is inclusive in two different ways: not only is it concerned about including all vulnerable groups, but it endeavours to include all the actions disaster risk reduction strategies can imply as well.

"It is very clear that all the different projects implemented by AIDMI serves the same overall purpose; they are not loose ends but all fit in the Risk Reduction approach that AIDMI enhances."
