From April 2007 till March 2008, AIDMI's Learning Resources (LR) conducted 56 local training courses covering over 1600 participants. Since its creation in 2001, Learning Resources have conducted more than 275 trainings. Due to the multiple need of increasing awareness, trainings have been held for a variety of stakeholders: Panchayat or community leaders, school teachers and administrators, governmental officers, disaster-affected people and NGO staff-members. Simultaneously, several key risk management topics are included, such as community-based risk mitigation, school safety, emergency medical response, risk transfer through microinsurance, participatory risk appraisal, standards in disaster response (Sphere project) or even good practice in community response and the HFA. Trainings have been held to strengthen community capacity in Gujarat, Tamil Nadu, Jammu and Kashmir and more recently in Bihar and Rajasthan. Furthermore, national and regional trainings have been conducted on topics such as risk reduction and transfer in disaster.

A training kit is provided to all the participants, which includes pen, training modules and additional materials for free. Due to the versatility of subjects, brochures are updated from session to session and are offered in the local language of the training area. In the trainings, different training tools are used and the courses are updated based on feedback collected in evaluation forms filled in by the participants.

"AIDMI is a unique organization which combines theory and practice in disaster management along with allied areas such as climate change. It takes a holistic approach to the issues by involving diverse stakeholders such as end beneficiaries, various shades of civil society, the government and the media. AIDMI involves media professionals and academics in its consultation groups, which is how I became associated with this dedicated organisation. Not contented with engaging only with the mainstream media, AIDMI goes in for alternative media such as community journals to put in alternative content and to reach people in local languages and dialects, with active participation of local people."
